Ethiopia, Omo river

Pristine Ethiopia

The ethnic groups of Omo river in southern Ethiopia are gradually disappearing due to large-scale irrigation for cotton plantations and hydroelectric projects along the river. Such projects are financed by Chinese and other multinational companies which are ruthlessly exploiting the enormous natural resources in Omo valley. In the hard and arid land of southern Ethiopia, water is essential, so with limited supplies from the river, the chance of survival for local inhabitants are slim.
